SELF GUIDED STREET ROUTES
The Smokies were made for motorcycling. Everyone has heard of The Dragon, Cherohala Skyway and so on, let us help you link them together with some other great roads for a fantastic ride. From our selection of day rides you can easily access these and be back in Townsend at the end of a day.
Start by leaving the shop and head over to the beautiful Foothills Pkwy. This takes you to Hwy 129 where you’ll turn left, in about 4 miles your on the Dragon. Be sure to stop and buy a sticker or T-shirt at the end. Then on to the Cherohala Skyway, about 50 miles of gently twists with some of the most beautiful views around as you get above 5000′ in elevation. Once in Tellico Plains you pick up Hwys. 360, 411, 72, and then 129 back to the Foothills and return back to Townsend.
Just head left out of our driveway to the Foothills Pkwy, then onto Hwy 129 and the Tail of the Dragon! At the end of the Dragon you’ll turn Left onto Hwy 28, known as the Moonshiner, great road, takes you by Fontana Dam, tallest in the East. From here you’ll go through Bryson City and Cherokee NC, both with great places to stop and eat. Then a relaxing ride through the Great Smoky Mountains Nat’l Park back to our base in Townsend.
Short route that takes you up through Wear’s Valley on Hwy. 321, then onto the little traveled Walden’s Creek Rd. At this point you have an option of heading up Bluff Mountain to a fire tower that offers great views of the Smokies. As you continue down Walden’s Creek it turns into East Miller Cove Rd ending up in Walland, TN. From here you take a left and follow the river back to Townsend, great ride to fill out an afternoon with.
