BMW R1200GS - Motorcycle Rental Great Smoky Mountains

Touring the Dragon

We not only take pride in offering the most diverse lineup of well maintained bikes in the Smokies, but just as important, we love sharing our knowledge of the area whether you want to ride on road or off. Choose from any of our easy to follow self guided day rides, included free with your rental, for an adventure you won’t soon forget. All of our day loops start and end in Townsend but can be easily modified if your staying in Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, or elsewhere in the area, and if you’re like me and don’t like missing a meal, they put you somewhere for lunch and fuel mid-day.

Regarding our Dual Sport routes, depending on rider abilities, there is a wide range of riding available in the area, from groomed gravel fire roads all the way to gnarly single track trails for those most interested in the dual sport experience.

Or opt for one of our multi-day tour packages and leave all the planning to us.

Self Guided Tours

GSMmotoRent has many easy to follow routes with turn by turn directions that help you find the type of motorcycle riding you’re looking for. When it comes to carving up the twisties there’s no better place than the Smokies, Tail of the Dragon, Cherohala Skyway, Foothills Pkwy, Blue Ridge Pkwy, these are just a few of the great roads in the area easily accessible from our base in Townsend.

As far as dual sport routes, we are located right in the center of two great areas to ride, the Cherokee National Forest area around Tellico Plains, and the area to the East of the Park in the Pisgah National Forest. Our day routes average 180 miles in length and will have between 35 to 75 miles off the pavement, plan on 7 to 8 hours out. You can check out the detailed descriptions on our Dual Sport Day Trip page. All the gravel portions are maintained forest and park service roads and are ideal for the rider with limited experience on loose surfaces. We have many routes, some that are variations of these and others that include more challenging conditions for the more experienced rider. Route sheets are included with motorcycle rental.
